Born of Naval History

Before Valletta existed, these three cities—Birgu, Senglea, and Cospicua—formed the naval and military heart of Malta, serving as a strategic refuge for those who dominated the Mediterranean.

The Knights of the Order of Malta settled here in 1530. During the Great Siege of 1565, these walls played a crucial role in defending the island against the Ottoman advance, forging the nation’s destiny.

The Best of The Three Cities

Birgu: The Historical Heart

The most historic city, home to Fort St. Angelo, which served as the headquarters for the Knights of Malta.

Senglea: The Best Views

Built on a narrow peninsula, offering spectacular views of the harbor and Valletta.

Cospicua: Walled Grandeur

The largest of the three, surrounded by impressive defensive walls that tell centuries of naval history.

Together, they offer a more authentic and less crowded experience, closely tied to Malta’s fascinating maritime history.
